I woke up around 9:30, made some coffee, and went to MINT. They were having a little street fair, as a few new business’s have opened up on the bottom floor of the building. After working out I got a free smoothie sample (obvs) and then walked to the stores. The best of them all was a new Belgian chocolate place that opened, Locolat. They were giving out free Belgian waffle samples and oh my goodness, it was a party in my mouth. The thing was amazing. Marc is going to love it!

Around noon Jess and I headed to the pool in Pentagon City and snuck right in. It isn’t even really sneaking, as we just walk in and the Russian lifeguards don’t give a crap. We spent about 3 hours of tanning bliss at the pool, with a break for some tacos at Baja Fresh. On the way home we stopped at Teeter to get some supplies for her birthday tonight. When I got home I made some pink frosting and finished Jess’s cupcakes. Call me Ina, they came out great.

I got all ready to roll and was very happy with my tan and new lip gloss. Had to document since I didn’t break out the camera later in the night. You’ll see why later, I could not be “that girl” with the camera.

We all had a great time eating some amazing homemade guacamole, mojitos that came out great (I made them), steak, and of course dessert, some lovely cupcakes. It was a perfect summer meal with perfect company :)

Around 10:30 we all headed to Town Hall in Glover Park and spent a very long time there. Finally when we were Town Hall-ed out a few of us headed over to the Rookery on M St. The Rookery is a new “members only” bar opened by the guy who owns the always exclusive Smith’s Point. This Washington Post article explains it all.

Kate is friends with the owner so she was on “the list” and we all got in. Thanks Kate. We drank cocktails on the patio with the other exclusive people and then all of a sudden some twins walked out on to the patio. Their Dad happens to be the President of the United States… Spotted.

I of course acted cool and exclusive like it was no big deal, but I was pretty excited to check them out and of course be at the same bar as them! Jenna was sitting right next to me for awhile, we talked about Manchu Picchu, because of course all white people must be able to talk about their travels and Jenna and I have both been. Both twins were smoking ciggies left and right and I even managed to check out Jenna’s engagement/wedding rings. Very tasteful and not too much bling.

I headed home on the very late side, whoops and passsseeedddd out!

Today at work was busy busy busy. I have not been to PerezHilton.com in at least 4 days. Is Ashley Simpson Pregs, did Amy Winehouse OD yet? Don’t ask me. During lunch Katherine and I walked over to Trader Joe’s and then ate outside, the weather was springy and breezy. In the afternoon I got to talk to my boo for like 40 minutes. He had some travel troubles, but gets to stay in his hotels jacuzzi suite for a night. That should be fun!

Once home I did a quick clean and prepared for my dinner guests. Laura and Katherine came over to dine/watch Gossip Girl. We started out with some baked brie and ate the whole thing. Laura has a wonderful recipe. Then we had chicken and salad, with my angel food cake for dessert.  Gossip Girl was awesome. Lisa Loeb was a guest-star and was wearing a dress by Karta that I’d bought and Neiman Marcus and returned. The one in the picture is blue, but I had black.

Glad I didn’t keep it. I would not want to be wearing the same thing as a has-been 90’s rockstar! After the ladies left I did a mound of dishes and watched an episode of The Office. Michael and some of the gang were at a high school career fair, while our fave Cornell grad and Jim were playing golf with a client. Cornell boy drove the golfcart too fast and crashed in the sandpit, it was the hardest I laughed all day.

Cinco de Mayo is not actually Mexican Independence day, that’s September 16th. The great Cinco commemorates Mexico’s victory over the French Army at the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862. However, less than a year later the French forces eventually were victorious and took over the country, under Emperor Maximilian I, who ruled until 1867 when Benito Juarez kicked his French ass off the “throne.” The holiday is not even really celebrated in Mexico. Kinda like St Patrick’s Day.

I woke up early this morning and went for a run, doing my usual Mass Ave loop. Right near the British Embassy I saw a deer eating some flowers, it was absolutely picturesque and this deer was way smarter than that idiot on the highway last night. She should live at least another few weeks I bet. On the way to work I saw a HUGE group of older middle schoolers or young high schoolers outside the Doubletree Hotel. The girls were wearing Tory Burch flats and various J Crew items from the Spring 2008 collection. They had to be from Rye Country Day or another private school equivalent. I was a little jealous.

At lunch I finished “The Eyre Affair” in anticipation of tomorrow’s book club meeting. After work I headed over to Cafe Citron for Linsay’s b-day/Cinco de Mayo celebraciones. It was packed, of course. The music was loud, and the margartias were plentiful. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures as planned, so this post is mostly image-less. I stayed at Citron for about an hour indulging in Mexicano goodness and then headed to Katherine’s for our weekly Gossip Girl screening. The episode was INTENSE to say the least. Next week is going to be killer (no pun intended, you’d get it if you watched).

On my walk home I eagerly anticipated the air conditioning. It was supposed to be turned on today (”supposed” being the key word here) AND IT WASN’T. I was more enojado than the coyote when he can’t catch Speedy Gonzales. Sadly I settled into bed with the windows open and dreamed of better days, when I was deep in the ice cave with my boo.

The week of “Where in the World is Matt Lauer” has commenced and guess where he stopped first. Buenos Aires Argentina! Matt told us about the city while standing in front of the Obelisk and took us from the Pampas to Patagonia. We need to go back there, rapido. The clue for tomorrow’s destination is this:

“The people in our second destination are accustomed to being looked down on…we’ll let the winds lead us to them…and we should get there on time…unless we stop for the lights.”

I am really not sure, somewhere that people fly over a lot? And definitely on the water. After tearing myself away from Matt and making my way to work I was greeted with some wonderful news. Since one co-worker with a window cube had left, I asked if I could move to it, and our boss said yes! The cube is much larger, the desk is bigger and I’m right next to the window. Supposedly it gets quite cold there in the winter, but I say, vale la pena.

Since my weekends are now Boo-booless I am planning some trips. Next weekend Dana and Melinda come for Goldcup, and the weekend after that Mom decided I should come to Charleston for Genny’s graduation. Then, for Memorial Day Melinda and I are going to have a NYC extravaganza. If the weather is good this will almost solely involve rooftop BBQ’s and tanning in central park (with water-bottles full of mimosas). If the weather is poor we will be cultural and go to museums and movies (with water-bottles full of hot rum toddy’s).

It was Monsoon raining here on and off today, since I left the windows open all day, I feared my apartment may be mildly flooded, but to my delight the only remnant was some water on the windowsill. You can barely see it.

Also, the Jetta, in its sweet parking spot, wanted to say hi. Can you see her? In front of that ugly Honda Element.

After doing some organizing I decided since the rain had stopped it was time for a run. My ass looked really good in my shorts, I had to document.

Post run I made some spaghetti and frozen meatballs from Trader Joes. I was just about to bite into my featst when Katherine called. She had arrived for our Gossip Girl double screening. As I ate and drank some Pinot Noir, Katherine and I watched two episodes of Gossip Girl and one episode of The Hills. All the while finishing the vast majority of the Pinot Noir.

Once Katherine left I began the daunting task of emptying half my closet. Apartment 402’s fan is being whack, and the way to get to it, is through Apartment 404;s closet, ME (that’s what the scary door is in the ceiling). They tried to fix the problem while I was gone, but there were too many clothes in my closet for them to do anything. I needed to empty it out, for their sake (and my designer wardrobes sake) to fix it.

It actually only took 5 minutes, but the pile is killing me. The fan will be fixed in the AM, and in the PM I will use this opportunity to re-color-code my pants as I put them back in. Now it is time to eat a little more Ben and Jerry’s, watch a spot of tellie, and wash the dishes. UGH, there are a lot I wish I had my Marco to help. There are a lot.
